BICYCLE RUIDOSO 'RULES OF THE ROAD' SAFETY TIPSRULES OF THE ROADThe same laws that apply to motorists apply to cyclistsAlways ride in the same direction as trafficUse the lane furthest to the right that heads in the direction that you are travelingSlower moving cyclists stay to the rightObey all traffic control devices, such as stop signs, lights, and lane markingsAlways use hand signals to indicate your intention to stop or turn to motorists and cyclistsRIDE PREDICTABLYRide in a straight line and don't swerve in the road or between parked carsCheck for oncoming traffic before entering any street or intersectionAnticipate hazards and adjust position in traffic accordinglyHook your thumbs, always wrap your thumbs around the handlebar, instead of laying them across the top. This will save your from going down when you hit a bump.No aero riding on busy streets. Save it for when you're on a smooth road with few cars.BE VISIBLEWear brightly colored clothing at all timesAt night, use a white front light, red rear light or reflector and reflective tape or clothingMake eye contact with motorists to let them know you are there
